Terms and Science Definitions for each Science A-Z Unit
Create vocabulary lessons from premade Science A-Z word lists on sister site Vocabulary A-Z to reinforce key terms and definitions.
Science A-Z Vocabulary Cards provide science definitions for key terms included in each Science A-Z instructional unit. The terms include both science content words and academic vocabulary. Teachers can introduce, review, and have students practice key vocabulary words for each unit using clippable card sets that contain each word and its part of speech on one side and its science definition on the other. Each card contains dots (, , ) corresponding to the level (or levels) of the Unit Nonfiction Book or Quick Read in which the term can be found.
Why Use Vocabulary Cards
Research shows that direct, explicit, and repeated vocabulary instruction can improve academic success in all content areas, including science. The more vocabulary words students know, the better they are able to comprehend science topics and to communicate when speaking, listening, and writing.
Science A-Z provides Vocabulary Cards for each instructional unit to ensure students gain multiple exposures and direct instruction on word meanings for key science vocabulary terms.
How to Use Vocabulary Cards
Create center activities, including games from Science A-Z Game Packs, for students to practice the science terms and definitions integral to understanding the science concepts and ideas in each instructional unit.
Give students the Word Smart Graphic Organizer to help them deepen their knowledge of each key term. Bind Word Smart sheets together as a science dictionary in which students can store and add information as each unit is taught.
Have students use the eJournal feature within each digital science resource to keep track of new, important words in a digital format. Students create their own vocabulary cards using the eJournal.
