Game Packs Tips
Fun Activities Designed to Reinforce Unit Vocabulary
Science A-Z Game Packs provide a variety of fun activities designed to reinforce unit vocabulary from Science A-Z instructional units. Students can use Vocabulary Cards and Image Cards from each unit to play games as they learn key science terms. Instructional support and activity ideas can be found in the Game Pack Guide.
Why Use Game Packs
Game Packs can provide fun, valuable reinforcement of science unit concepts, cement student understanding of those concepts, and provide practice for cumulative review. Game Packs also can provide informal assessments of student comprehension of unit concepts and vocabulary before, during, or after instruction.
How to Use Game Packs
The Game Pack Guide provides instructions for 24 different activities and games you can use with students in pairs, small groups, or as a whole class.
Each Science A-Z Game Pack centers around two types of card sets: (1) Vocabulary Cards, which pair words and their parts of speech with definitions, and (2) Image Cards, which pair key science terms from the unit with images that illustrate their meanings. The Image Cards provide a non-linguistic approach to language development for students developing proficiency in English.
Students can use a Word Sort Placemat, colorful Game Boards, and a Wordo Board to play a variety of games with the cards. Students can illustrate new terms using the Blank Image Cards.
