Next Generation Science Standards - Middle School Engineering

In middle school engineering, students should develop an understanding of the engineering design process by defining a problem while recognizing the possible constraints on a solution; developing possible solutions to a problem that incorporate scientific principles and consider potential impacts on the natural environment; testing multiple solutions to identify areas of improvement; and refining solutions on the basis of data to achieve an optimal design.
