Marine Protected Areas

Marine protected areas, or MPAs, are places that receive special designation from state or federal government agencies. In these areas, certain human activities are restricted so that threatened or endangered species can be protected. MPAs are also designed to protect cultural and natural resources and to promote healthy oceans.
